The matching family Christmas jumper exists for one reason and everybody knows it: the photograph. The one that goes on the card, or in the group chat, or on the wall for the next twenty years. The jumpers are the means. The picture is the point.
Which is why this is worth getting right. A full family set needs to work across a surprising range of bodies – an adult chunky knit, something for a nine-year-old who has opinions, and a babygrow in the same print. The ranges that do this properly are the ones to look for, because mixing in a near-match from elsewhere shows up instantly on camera.
Two bits of hard-won advice. Buy earlier than feels necessary, because family sets sell through in size order and the one you will be missing is the child’s. And do not forget the dog – they are in the photograph whether you planned for it or not, and a matching pet jumper costs very little for how much it adds. Have a look at the matching pyjama sets too, which are the same idea with the considerable advantage of being comfortable.
