Asda is the unglamorous answer and frequently the right one. The supermarket Christmas jumper is bought in the same trip as the sprouts and the wrapping paper, it costs a fraction of what the high street charges, and nobody at the party can tell.
That is the whole case for it. A Christmas jumper is worn a handful of times across one month, and there is a strong argument for not spending much. Asda’s festive knitwear and pyjamas sit in the clothing aisles from around October, they cover the whole family in the same range, and the children’s prices in particular are hard to argue with – which matters a great deal when the child will have grown out of it by next December regardless of what you paid.
Two things to know. Supermarket festive clothing arrives early, sells through and is not restocked, so the first half of November is the moment rather than the first half of December. And availability varies between the big stores and the smaller ones, so the online range is usually the fuller picture. Our selection here is small because the range changes fast – have a look, then check in store.
