Not On The High Street is a marketplace of small British makers, and it is one of the largest sources of festive clothing on this site – which tells you how much of this trade is independent businesses rather than big retailers. If you want something that nobody else at the party will be wearing, this is the first place to look.
Personalisation is the headline. Names, dates, family in-joke slogans, the dog, the new baby’s first Christmas, a jumper with the whole household’s names knitted or printed into it. For a present, that is a different class of thing from something off a rail, and it is the reason this section is as big as it is. Beyond personalisation there are hand-knitted pieces, small-batch designs and a lot of genuinely funny slogan work from people who are not worried about a buying committee.
Plan ahead. Personalised and made-to-order items have real lead times, and the cut-off dates in December are earlier than you think and firmly enforced – ordering in November is not early, it is sensible. Check each maker’s stated dispatch time and returns position before you buy, because a personalised item usually cannot come back.
