Pink has quietly become one of the most interesting corners of the Christmas jumper rail. It is a relatively recent arrival – for years festive knitwear was red, green and navy and that was that – and because it is newer, the designs tend to be fresher and rather less predictable.
The range inside pink is enormous. At one end there is pale blush and dusty rose, which is where the properly chic knitwear sits: fine gauge, subtle motifs, the sort of jumper that looks like it came from somewhere expensive. At the other there is hot pink and candy pink, which is unapologetic fun and the natural home of flamingos in Santa hats, pink baubles, sweet-shop prints and anything involving the word sprinkles.
It is also the colour that has broken furthest out of the traditional Christmas palette, so if you are tired of reindeer on red this is the section to browse. Pink with white snowflakes is genuinely lovely. Pink with silver sequins is a party outfit. And pale pink Fair Isle is one of the few festive knits that nobody will question in March. Much bigger selection here than there was five years ago, and it keeps growing.
