White and cream is the Scandinavian end of Christmas knitwear, and it is where the nicest jumpers on this site tend to live. A cream Fair Isle with a navy or red border does not look like a novelty jumper at all – it looks like something somebody made, and it is the one colour that genuinely passes as proper winter knitwear.
Snow is the obvious reference and the designs lean into it: white grounds with grey and silver snowflakes, cream cable knits, Nordic repeats in oatmeal and ecru, the occasional sheepskin-effect fluffy thing. These are the jumpers that photograph best, which is why they show up so often in catalogue shots, and they are overwhelmingly the ones still being worn in February.
One honest warning. White knitwear and Christmas dinner are natural enemies. Gravy, red wine, cranberry sauce, chocolate – all of it shows, and all of it is on the table. Cream and oatmeal are considerably more forgiving than true white if you intend to eat anything. Wash it cool and separately, keep it away from anything red, and dry it flat rather than hanging, because wet white wool stretches and never quite forgives you.
