You cannot go wrong with a tree. It is the most instantly readable Christmas motif there is, it needs no joke attached to make sense, and it looks right on everything from a fine knit cardigan to a jumper covered in actual tinsel. The tree splits into two quite different schools. There is the traditional treatment – a single stylised fir in cream or dark green, often as part of a Fair Isle repeat, understated and genuinely smart. And there is the full-blown version, where the tree is the whole front of the jumper, hung with pom-pom baubles, trimmed in tinsel and frequently fitted with battery-powered fairy lights that actually work.
Both are correct, but know which one you are buying. The light-up tree jumper is an enormous amount of fun and the battery pack sits in a small internal pocket, which does mean you have to remember to take it out before washing.
